Membership Categorieswith designator letters & Criteria

 

Individual Membership

 

·         Student Membership – SNIOSH

 

This membership will be awarded free of chargefor following categories;

 

- Those who are current students of occupational safety & health at NIOSH Sri Lanka.

 

- Undergraduates in state/private universities.

 

Student of this category must prove their studentship through valid student ID obtained by the University.

 

-  Application should be endorsed by an Associate or above member category of National Safety Professional Association (NSPA).

 

 

 

 

·         Affiliate Membership - AFNIOSH
shall be those who have completed following NIOSH programs;
- Passed NIOSH Certificate in OSH, NVQ level 04 qualification
- 2 years or more post qualified industrial OSH related experience
- Anybody who would like to develop the career as an OSH Professional, with 04 year industrial exposure in any category.

 

 

 

·         Associate Membership – ANIOSH
Shall be those who have;
- Successfully completed National Diploma in OSH equivalent to NVQ level 05 and five (05) or more years of post-qualified experience in the field of OSH in managerial level
or
- Those who have a degree from a recognized university with five (05) or more year experience in the field of OSH.
or
- Minimum 05 year experience in OSH related specialized field.
- Non-Citizens who have been completed OSH trainings by a recognized body in the respective country with the NIOSH Governing Council board approval.

 

 

 

·         Technical MembershipTNIOSH

 

-          Been an Associate Member at NIOSH for 2 years consecutively with active engagement of national level OSH program (min 01 program – contribution validated by NOSH-TAC) or

 

-          Successfully obtaining 5 years of industrial OSH experience in managerial level during the period of ANIOSH and

 

-          Obtaining the CPD points required to meet the NIOSH competency standards

 

 

 

·         Graduate MembershipGNIOSH

 

-          Been a Technical Member at NIOSH for 3 years consecutively with active engagement of national level OSH program (min 03 programs – contribution validated by NOSH-TAC) and

 

-          Obtaining the CPD points required to meet the NIOSH competency standards

 

 

 

·         Chartered MembershipCNIOSH

 

-          Been a Graduate Member at NIOSH for 5 years consecutively with active engagement of national level OSH program (min 05 programs – contribution validated by NOSH-TAC) and

 

-          Maintain the CPD points required to meet the NIOSH competency standards

 

 

 

 

·         Fellow Membership – FELLOW NIOSH
Fellowship will be awarded by NIOSH Governing Council on the recommendation of NOSH-TAC.

 

-          Maintain the CPD points required to meet the NIOSH competency standards

 

Corporate Membership

 

·         A corporate which have successfully implemented the NOSH-MSwhich is recognized by NIOSH.

 

·         A non-governmental organization (NGO) whose main objective for its inception is to promote OSH amongst its members.

 

·         Companies which are registered under the Companies act of Sri Lanka.

 

·         Membership for corporations is limited to companies approved but the Board and does not include subsidiary companies. Subsidiaries are required to submit separate applications for membership. As such, membership benefits are only given to the registered company. This is also applicable to companies which are members of a society/ body with NIOSH membership. Benefits of membership are only given to the society/ body and do not extend to its members. Members are required to submit separate applications for membership.

 

·         Corporate membership entities the corporation to submit names of up to three nominees as members to represent them. All the representatives are entitled to NSPA.

 

·         Successful application will be officially informed and payment for membership fee should be made within 3 months after the approval.

·         The duration of membership is one (1) calendar year.

 

·         Applications for membership approved before December 31st are required to pay the full yearly fee. Those approved after June1st, are required to pay half the yearly fee for the first year.

Terms and Conditions

 

1)      Every member shall be bound to further, to the best of his abilities, the objectives and interests of the institute and shall observe all the rules and regulations of the institute.

 

2)      All members shall be entitled to reasonable access to the premises of the institute and to information and advice with regard to the objectives of the institute as the Board may deem expedient to supply.

 

3)      No rights or privileges of any member shall be in any way transferable or transmissible, and such right and privileges shall cease upon the member ceasing to be such, whether by death, retirement or otherwise.

 

4)      Every member shall pay the yearly membership fee due of them before 31st December for the subsequent year.

 

5)      Members who fail to pay the membership fees six (6) months from the date of expiry of membership shall be suspended. Membership will only be continued after settlement of the outstanding fees. If payment is not made other twelve (12), months from the date of expiry, membership will be terminated.

 

6)      A member of the institute shall automatically cease to be a member if he/she:

 

7)      is convinced of any sizeable offence and sentenced

 

8)      is found or declared to be of unsound mind; or

 

9)      Is engaged in any profession prohibited by the disciplinary body of the profession from continuing to practice.

 

 

 

 

10)  Any person so ceasing to be a member may be readmitted to membership by the NOSH-TAC of its direction. However, no person so ceases to be a member shall be readmitted within a period of one year.

 

11)  Any member who fails in the observance of any of the rules and regulations of the institute may have his / her membership terminated by resolution voted by a majority of the NOSH-TAC members present of an ordinary or special Board Meeting. Such member shall have seven (7) clear days notice sent to him of the Board Meeting and he may attend to answer any changes mode against him.

 

12)  A member whose membership is terminated in the aforesaid manner may within seven (7) clear days after the written decision. Such review may be made of NOSH-TAC Meeting attended by at least two thirds of the members. The decision of the NOSH-TAC shall be final.

 

13)  Any person who ceases to be a member shall forfeit all right to claim from the institute or its properties of funds. Director General of NIOSH shall forthwith, remove his name from Register of Members.

 

14)  Any member of the institution who desires to ceases to be a member, shall notify such desire in waiting to the Director General NIOSH, and there upon his / her name shall be removed from the Register of Members.

 

15)  For the avoidance of doubt, following the first year of membership, membership will automatically continue for the preceding year unless notice is given before 03 months.

 

16)  The institute reserves the right to change, amend or update the Rules and Regulations of membership and Membership benefits from time to time as deemed necessary by the NOSH-TAC without prior notice to the members.

 

17)  The NOSH-TAC reserves the right to accept or reject a Membership application for any reason it deems appropriate. The applicant will be notified of such a decision in writing and any Membership fee will be refunded within 30 days of the NIOSH decision.

 

18)  Any changes or amendments will be posted on the Institute’s website and details will be sent to each registered Member on the Institute’s email database.
